Elmira Juneteenth Celebration Day 2021

June 19 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

A community event filled with artists and crafters, celebrating the spirit of Juneteenth! Each year features demonstrations of poetry, dance and other talents from a variety of cultures, many of which include audience participation.

Juneteenth, the oldest known African-American celebration in the U.S., commemorates the final emancipation of slaves in Texas in 1865. The spirit of Juneteenth encompasses self-improvement, family, and economic unity. The Elmira Juneteenth Celebration takes place annually and provides the opportunity for local artisans to showcase their talents to a diverse population and for local organizations and service to providers to disseminate information to their community.

This year, the Elmira Juneteenth Celebration is returning in-person. This years theme is “Devoted to Unity”. The celebration provides both cultural education, healing, along with event highlights including: Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs), live music, dance, food, local small businesses, vendors, and community organizations bringing the feeling of a family reunion for all ages.
