Elmira Civil Prison War Camp: The Road to Elmira

July 23, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - July 25, 2021 @ 1:00 pm

It is a go!
We have locked in dates with Elmira College. Any changes in the current health situation may cause adjustments, so we encourage you to periodically check or updates, especially with regard to any travel restrictions.
We are proud to announce a collaborative partnership with Elmira College to develop and launch an annual Civil War Symposium. It will take place on the campus of Elmira College, originally known as the “Elmira Female College”, the oldest operating institution in the United States, awarding baccalaureate degrees to women equivalent to men’s degrees. Home to six buildings listed on the National Historic register, Elmira College has operated continuously since 1855, graduating its first class in 1859, in the looming shadows of the American Civil War.
The theme of this year’s event is the “Road to Elmira”. Topics will feature a range of subjects that generated Civil War era history in Elmira & designed to enhance the Friends mission statement:
“to protect and preserve the history of the Civil War in Elmira, Chemung County and surrounding areas, and to educate the public about that history”
2021 Dr. Thomas K. Meier Keynote Speaker
Dr, Michael Gray
“The Shohola Train Wreck”
Details and registration form will be published on the Friends website www.elmiraprisoncamp.com
