Burial Reenactment at Woodlawn Cemetery 11 am Woodlawn Cemetery, 1200 Walnut Street, Elmira, NY A funeral procession complete with horse-drawn carriages, trolleys and vintage cars will leave historic Park Church at 208 W. Gray St. in downtown Elmira at 10:15 am and travel to Woodlawn Cemetery where Twain was laid to rest. The community is invited to participate as “mourners” by meeting at Woodlawn’s Walnut Street entry gate prior to 10:45 and following the procession to the Langdon/Clemens family burial site, for an interment ceremony re-enactment from 11 – 11:30 am. You may wish to join in the spirit of this historic reenactment by wearing black and carrying a black umbrella- it rained the day Clemens was buried! The first 75 “mourners” to arrive at Woodlawn’s Walnut Street gate that morning will receive a Twain 2010 commemorative black umbrella. The first 125 will receive a copy of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. All attendees will receive a Twain 2010 commemorative poster. This is a FREE event!
