Held at Horseheads High School, the Chemung County Senior Games is a regional event open to anyone age 50 and over. Over 600 athletes will compete over a 2 week period in events including bowling, softball, bocce, volleyball, cycling, track and field and more.

To commemorate this centennial year, the Elmira College Center for Mark Twain Studies will sponsor two Community Reads during the month of July. Interested individuals and families may receive free copies of either the easy-to-read children’s book, Who Was Mark Twain? or, for adults, The Diaries of Adam and Eve. The Elmira College Center for Mark Twain Studies, under the direction of Dr. Terry Oggel,Virginia Commonwealth University, will host a one-and-a half-day Symposium featuring two of Mark Twain’s travel books -- A Tramp Abroad (1880) and Following the Equator(1897). The Symposium will feature an elegant dinner with Keynote Address by Dr. Louis J. Budd, Duke University Emeritus, on Friday evening;10 presentations on Saturday;and a concluding dinner in the Barn at Quarry Farm on Saturday evening. Housing will be available at the Holiday Inn Riverview in Elmira at a rate of $92.00 per night plus tax. Symposium cost: $130. Public welcome.
