Twain 2010: A yearlong celebration honoring the life- and death- of America's Writer, Mark Twain (1835-1910).
Twain enthusiasts across the globe are gearing up for 2010, the centennial year of Mark Twain's death! During this celebratory year, pay a visit to Mark Twain Country to witness our special stake in Twain's life and legacy...
The beautiful Chemung River Valley, described by Twain as "a foretaste of heaven", inspired him to create Huck and Tom and so many legendary characters while he summered here for more than two decades. On the campus of Elmira College, you will find "the number one literary attraction in America" (USA Today), Twain's iconic Study. In the quiet of Woodlawn Cemetery lies Twain's final resting place in the Langdon's family plot as well as a twelve-foot monument of Rhode Island granite commemorating Samuel Clemens. There will be many special events planned throughout 2010, so please check back for more information!
