Revolutionary War, Civil War and Underground Railroad

Take history into your own hands with a self-guided driving tour of our Revolutionary War sites. Experience a Civil War or Revolutionary War reenactment at Sullivan’s Monument Park at the Newtown Battlefield Reservation. Drive past historic Underground Railroad sites- including the home of former slave John W. Jones who aided in the escape of over 800 slaves. As sexton for Woodlawn Cemetery, Jones respectfully buried nearly 3,000 Confederate soldiers who died in Elmira’s Civil War Prison Camp.
