Learn about some of our hometown heroes including Ernie Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. Ernie was famously known as “The Elmira Express” and the 2008 Universal Studios film The Express is based on his remarkable life. Bring to light your family’s role in our history with abundant genealogy resources available at the Steele Memorial Library and the Chemung Valley History Museum’s Research Room.
